Obama to Talk Health Care in Dallas

Official portrait of Barack ObamaPresident Obama will try to turn the tide from explanations of problems with the individual health care marketplace to a discussion of successful enrollment efforts as he travels to Dallas on Wednesday.

Obama will use the visit to highlight work that’s being done in communities across the country to explain and help Americans prepare for the full implementation of the Affordable Care Act as he meets with local volunteers, a White House official said.

Parents Rally Around Lottery Scholarships

Mother supporting children for lottery scholarshipMarta Parra told her oldest daughter she could never go to college because they didn’t have enough money – Parra hadn’t yet heard of the state’s lottery scholarship.

Now Parra’s younger daughter, a high school student, may not be able to attend either because the lottery scholarship could be reduced as soon as next year due to insufficient funds.

“May Day” Immigration Events

May Day Celebration Advocates in New Mexico joined national efforts on Wednesday to push for immigration reform with May Day marches, rallies and prayer vigils. This year, May Day events aimed at drawing attention to immigration reform weren’t just taking place in the state’s largest cities. Advocates in New Mexico’s smaller towns organized their own marches and vigils.
